JOSHUA WILLIAMS
.png)

At 18 years old, Joshua was overcome with grief and rage after a fellow protester was killed by police during a peaceful demonstration ~ honoring Michael Brown. In a moment of emotional devastation, he took under $500 in goods and set fire to trash cans outside a nearby store. For this, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Since then, Joshua’s punishment has escalated into cruelty.
. He has spent much of his sentence in maximum-security facilities, despite the nonviolent nature of his actions.
. In 2022 – just prior to his scheduled release – He received an additional two-year sentence following an incident in which staff coercion compelled him to possess a plastic object subsequently classified as a "weapon," under circumstances suggesting he acted out of a perceived necessity for self-defense. Most recently, someone has come forward offering proof
of Joshua’s innocence in the assault.
. Additional time also has been added to Joshua’s sentence due to a drug dependency developed while incarcerated.
. Josh has and continues to endure consistent mistreatment by staff and prolonged periods without access to critical mental health care and medication. He has spent much of the last 5 years in solitary confinement. And attempted suicide two times in 2023.
